OKC Energy FC News Release

OKLAHOMA CITY - Energy FC re-sign defender Kyle Hyland for the 2017 season, head coach Jimmy Nielsen announced today.

Hyland played in 23 of Energy FC's 30 contests last season, scoring three goals and adding two assists. Hyland's biggest goal for Energy FC came during the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup match against NASL's Rayo OKC. In the 107th minute, Hyland's header from inside the box gave Energy FC the 2-1 win and allowed the team to advance to the Open Cup's 5th Round against FC Dallas.

Prior to joining Energy FC, Hyland played 18 games with Indy Eleven during the 2015 season. A four-year starter at IUPUI in Indiana, he scored 10 goals and added 10 assists in 72 games played. Following his career with IUPUI, he signed a contract with the Columbus Crew.

"Kyle Hyland is one of those guys you know what you're going to get, consistency in training and games," said head coach Jimmy Nielsen. "He came in as a left back, but by the end of the season had moved to left wing. We moved him to that position because of his ability to serve the ball into the box and at the same time he is very aggressive in his high pressure on the opponent."

"I'm real excited about resigning with the OKC Energy. I have really enjoyed my time here with the team and in this city," said Hyland. "This city has been extremely supportive of the team and I couldn't appreciate that more. This is a team that can compete for a championship right now and I trust that the coaches are going to lead the current and new players coming into this successful system. This is a great organization and I can't wait to see what the future will bring."

Hyland joins forward Danni König and defender Coady Andrews as players officially signed for the 2017 season.
