SPOKANE, Washington - The Spokane Empire has signed running back Washaun Ealey to their 2016 roster.
Ealey (RB, 5-11, 225, Georgia/Jacksonville State) joins the Empire for his third season in the IFL after signing with Spokane as a former Restricted Free Agent with the Cedar Rapids Titans. During the 2015 season with the Titans, Ealey led the team with 140 carries for 535 yards and 20 touchdowns. He also added 23 receptions for 181 yards and four scores. As a rookie, Ealey played in the final regular season game with Cedar Rapids and recorded 18 rush attempts for 74 yards and four touchdowns.
Washaun completed his collegiate career at Jacksonville State where he played in 20 games and recorded 357 rush attempts for 1,809 yards and 18 touchdowns. During his freshman and sophomore seasons at Georgia, Ealey started nine of the 21 contests he competed in while recording 282 total rush attempts for 1,528 yards and 14 touchdowns.
Ealey played his prep career at Emanuel County Institute where he had a stellar career in the state of Georgia. Ealey received numerous All-America, All-Class, and individual awards and would finish his high school career with 8,108 rushing yards and a state-record 133 touchdowns. In 2007, he set a Georgia high school single season record with 58 touchdowns.
"Washaun is as dominate and bruising of a back as this league has seen," said Empire Head Coach Adam Shackleford. "Beyond his running skills, he also has great ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. The late edition of Ealey instantly makes our offense better."
Additional Transactions (2-2-16): The Empire signed WR Carl Sims, WR Samuel Charles, and RB Washaun Ealey. LB Michael Reynolds, LB Tre Walker, and LB Chris Harvey were placed on the Transfer List for the MLFB (Major League Football). The Empire will retrain the rights to the three linebackers while they participate in the new spring startup league.
