Eugene Emeralds News Release

EUGENE, Ore. - The Eugene Emeralds took a doubleheader from Spokane on Tuesday at PK Park, winning the first game, 5-1, and the second game, 6-3.

The doubleheader was actually a continuation of Monday night's game, as a light outage stopped play in the fourth. The first game of Tuesday's doubleheader started in the fourth and was a nine inning game while the second game was a seven inning contest. Eugene (16-11, 33-32) took a one-game lead over Hillsboro in the Northwest League South Division standings.

Reliever Jose Paulino (3-6) picked up the win in the first game after tossing 4.2 shutout innings with five hits allowed and five strikeouts. Mark Malave picked up his first save after getting out of a bases loaded jam in the eighth and pitching a scoreless ninth. In the second game, reliever Jae-Hoon Ha (2-0) earned the win after the Ems took the lead in the bottom of the third. Craig Brooks struck out all three batters he faced in the ninth for his first save.

In the opening game of the doubleheader, Eloy Jimenez became the first Emerald since 2012 to hit two home runs in a single game when he went yard in the first inning and in the sixth, both to left field. The home runs actually came on different days but in the same game, as the game was stopped in the fourth on Monday due to the light outage and resumed on Tuesday.

In the second game, Jimenez homered for a third time as Eugene came back from a 2-1 deficit with two runs in the third, two more in the fourth and one in the fifth. Donnie Dewees went 2-for-3 at the leadoff spot while No. 2 hitter P.J. Higgins was 2-for-4. Eugene tallied 10 hits in the first game and nine more in the second game.

Dewees Hit Streak: With his first-inning single in the first game and a first inning double in the second game, Donnie Dewees has an 18-game hitting streak, which started back on Aug. 8.

Up Next: The Emeralds meet Spokane for the fourth game of a five-game series on Wednesday. It will be Trick-Or-Treat Night, with prizes for the best costumes at the ballpark! As always, kids eat free on Wednesday's with a hot dog, apple and soda to all children under 12.
