Previewing the Upcoming Week:

1/16 at Cincinnati - 7:35 p.m., Home vs. CIN 1-0-0, Away vs. CIN 0-1-1

Elmira kicks off this week's road games with its third visit of the season to U.S. Bank Arena to take on the Cincinnati Cyclones. The Jackals are 1-1-1 against the North Division leaders following back-to-back losses (one in regulation one in overtime) in December 20 and 21. The Cyclones enter play this week on a four-game winning streak and are 8-1-1 in their last ten games. U.S. Bank Arena has been tough on visitors lately as Cincinnati has won each of its last four home games and gone 4-0-1 on home ice since December 17.

1/17 at Fort Wayne - 8:00 p.m., Home vs. FTW 2-0-0, Away vs. FTW. 0-0-0

The Jackals and Komets renew acquaintances this week with Elmira's first of two trips to Memorial Coliseum this season. Elmira and Fort Wayne first got together in December 6 and 8 with the Jackals grabbing a 4-3 shootout win and 5-2 triumph, respectively. Since those games the Jackals and Komets pulled the trigger on their second trade. The first sent Jordon Southorn to Fort Wayne and brought Nick Tuzzolino to Elmira, while the second brought Mike Vaskivuo and Nik Pokulok to the Jackals in exchange for Matt Carter and Christian Ouellet. Friday night is the first game between the clubs since the major four-player swap.

Recapping Last Week:

1/10 vs. Reading: L 1-4

The Jackals got off to a slow start last Friday night and couldn't recover after giving up the first four goals of the game. Reading used a couple of short bursts to provide its offense. The first two goals were scored 49 seconds apart midway through the first and the second two came 39 seconds apart early in the second. Dane Walters provided Elmira's offense in the third period.

1/11 vs. Reading: L 2-4

The Jackals' defense provided the offense last Saturday with Kyle Bushee and Patch Alber netting scores in the second period. Bushee's tied the game at one and Alber's came with less than a minute left in the frame and tied the score at two. Reading notched a pair, though, in the third and spoiled Elmira's bid for its first home win against the Royals this season.

1/12 at Reading: L 0-3

Elmira hit three posts in Sunday's loss at Reading, but nothing crossed the line behind goalie Brandon Anderson and the Jackals shouldered their third loss in a row. Reading picked up a pair of goals in the second, including a 5-on-3 with less than two seconds remaining, and cruised the rest of the way through the third.

Quick Hits:

* The Jackals have six games remaining this month against Fort Wayne (5) and Reading (1). The Komets currently occupy the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference with 38 points.

* Patch Alber's goal on January 11 vs. Reading was his third of the season, and each has come in the span of the Jackals' last seven games. Alber hasn't scored more than three goals in a season since 2008-09 as a member of the Boston Jr. Bruins of the Eastern Junior Hockey League. He recorded four goals in his four-year collegiate career at Boston College.

* Elmira went 4-for-4 on the penalty kill last Saturday against Reading and improved it's home penalty kill to 93.6 percent which is first in the Eastern Conference and the league. The Jackals are 35-for-35 on the penalty kill in their last 11 home games and are 5-6-0 over that time. The Jackals have afforded opponents the second fewest power play chances at home (47) of any team in the league and their three power play goals allowed are the fewest.
