WHEELING, W.Va. - March 6, 2013 - The Elmira Jackals are in Wheeling to battle the Nailers for the first time since New Year's Eve. A week ago Elmira beat Wheeling by four goals in a game that featured a combined 104 penalty minutes.

The Jackals are facing the Nailers tonight for the eighth of 10 meetings this season and the fourth of five at WesBanco Arena. The Jackals are 5-3-0 against Wheeling this season which includes a 1-2-0 mark at WesBanco. The Jackals are making their first appearance in Wheeling since a 3-2 triumph on New Year's Eve. Tonight's matchup pits one of the league's top home teams against an Elmira team that has been on a tear on the road. The Nailers are 19-6-5 on home ice which rates as the third best in the Eastern Conference. The Nailers have, however, gone 2-3-2 over their last seven at home. Elmira, meanwhile, is 7-2-1 in its last ten road games and 4-0-1 in its last five.
Elmira has qualified for the Kelly Cup Playoffs in each of its first five seasons in the ECHL. Its quest for a sixth straight berth is coming to a head. With at least one standings point in each of their last eight games (5-0-3) the Jackals have reduced their magic number to clinch a playoff spot to 17. The magic number is reduced any time the Jackals earn a point in a game or the ninth place team fails to earn a point in a game. Despite playing 11 games in the last 21 days, the Jackals have played the second fewest games in the conference at 59.
