Elmira Jackals News Release
ELMIRA, N.Y. - January 31, 2013 - The Elmira Jackals announced today that they have completed a three-player trade with the Las Vegas Wranglers and that three players have been called up to their American Hockey League affiliate - the Binghamton Senators. These moves come in advance of the Jackals' games this weekend in Toledo and Evansville.
The Jackals have acquired defenseman Cameron Cooper and forward Matt Carter from Las Vegas in exchange for defenseman Matt Campanale.
Cooper is a rookie out of Minnesota State-Mankato and has logged one assist and 15 penalty minutes in 13 games with the Wranglers. He made his pro debut last spring with a nine game amateur tryout with the Toledo Walleye.
Carter, also a rookie, has split this season between San Francisco and Las Vegas. He has five points (2G, 3A) in 29 combined games with the Bulls and Wranglers. Carter joined the pros after averaging over a point per game (144 points in 111 games) at the University of Prince Edward Island (Canadian Interuniversity Sport).
Additionally, the Jackals have sent Dustin Gazley, Kyle Bushee, and Darren Kramer to Binghamton.
Gazley, currently fifth in the league with 49 points, has been recalled from his loan to Elmira by Binghamton. It is his second trip to Binghamton this season but he has yet to dress in a game for the B-Sens. Gazley represented the Jackals at the ECHL All-Star Game in Loveland, Colorado last week and scored the ECHL's final goal in a 7-3 win over the host Colorado Eagles.
Bushee, the Jackals' leading scoring defenseman with 20 points, has received his second promotion to the AHL this season. The fifth year pro dressed in a pair of games with the Norfolk Admirals while on loan from January 12 to January 18. He has 14 games of AHL experience under his belt between stays with Portland, Manitoba, St. John's, and Norfolk.
Kramer has been reassigned to Binghamton by the National Hockey League's Ottawa Senators. He has the most points (10) and penalty minutes (127) among active Jackals rookies as of the start of this week. His penalty minute total is second among all ECHL rookies. A former sixth round draft pick (#156 overall) by Ottawa in 2011, made his pro debut for Binghamton on October 21 in Hershey.
Gazley, Bushee, and Kramer are expected to make the trip with the Senators to St. John's, Newfoundland for the their two games against the Ice Caps this weekend. They join fellow former Jackals Chris Wideman, Ben Blood, Danny New, Jack Downing, and Marc Cheverie in Binghamton.
