Elmira Evens Series 1-1 with 5-2 Win

ESTERO, FL - Despite falling down 1-0 early in the second period, Elmira rallied for a 5-2 win to even the best-of-five American Conference quarterfinals at a game apiece with Florida. Chris Korchinski (1) and Justin Donati (1) led the way for Elmira with a goal and two assists, while defenseman Brennan Turner added two helpers. Elmira held the Everblades to just 20 shots in the contest to record their first win of the post season.

The two clubs were deadlocked in a defensive struggle after one the first period of play. Florida and Elmira combined for just 12 shots in the frame with the ‘Blades registering seven shots on Elmira goaltender Chris Holt. Florida could not convert on two power-play opportunities in the first and the period ended at a 0-0 stalemate.

Period two saw the Everblades grab the lead 2:52 into the frame. Eric Lampe (2) scored his second goal in as many nights on a great pass from Milan Gajic. The Jackals tied the game 1-1 on the power play on Chris Korchinski's first goal of the Kelly Cup Playoffs. ECHL second-leading scorer Justin Donati and Maxime Gratchev registered assists. Elmira took their first lead of the series six and a half minutes later on Wes Cunningham's (1) tally. The puck bounced off of Cunningham, who crashed the ‘Blades cage, and past netminder Chris Beckford-Tseu for a 2-1 Elmira lead. The Jackals second period onslaught continued with their third goal of the period at 18:23 scored by ECHL regular-season scoring champion Tyler Donati (1). Donati fired in his own rebound to give Elmira a two-goal cushion heading into the final 20 minutes. The Jackals outshot the Everblades 16-4 in the period.

Elmira extended their lead to 4-1, 2:31 into the third period on a Brendan Connolly (2) marker. The puck was knocked into the net off of Connolly's hand but the officials ruled the play was unintentional and the goal stood to give the Jackals a three-goal advantage. Elmira's fifth goal, scored two minutes and 36-seconds later sent Everblades starting goaltender Chris Beckford-Tseu to the bench in favor of backup rookie netminder Adrien Lemay. The Everblades finished off the scoring with just 15-seconds remaining in the contest on Eric Lampe's (3) second goal of the game. Elmira finished one of two on the power play while their penalty killers held the Everblades scoreless in four chances.

The scene shifts to Elmira, New York for game three and four on Friday and Saturday, April 9 & 10. The Shoeless Joe's Sports Café pregame show comes your way 25 minutes to the drop of the puck on the Everblades flagship station, 1200/1460AM. Florida and Elmira are set to faceoff at 7:35 p.m. on both nights. If a game five is necessary, it will be played on Sunday, April 11 at First Arena at 4:05 p.m.
