Western New York Flash News Release

ELMA, N.Y. (Wednesday) - U.S. Women's National Team head coach Jill Ellis announced her 25-Player roster for upcoming matches this afternoon, which includes Western New York Flash players Sam Mewis and Jaelene Hinkle. The USWNT will take on Japan in two friendlies to be held on June 2 in Commerce City, Colo., (7 p.m. MT on FS1) and June 5 in Cleveland (12 p.m. ET on ESPN2). The two teams last met in the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup final, when the U.S. defeated Japan 5-1 in historic fashion.

Mewis has 10 appearances and two goals with the senior team so far. The midfielder has proved to be a major presence in the midfield for the USWNT as seen during the SheBelieves Cup Final against Germany when she scored the game-winner after coming on in the second half to lead the team to a 2-1 victory.

Hinkle, a Denver native, earned her first USWNT cap on October 21, 2015, in a 1-1 tie against Brazil during the team's Victory Tour. The defender, who has eight caps under her belt coming into camp, will have the chance to represent her country near her hometown.

The team will come together on May 27 in Denver. For each friendly, 18 of the 25 players will suit up.

The Western New York Flash return to Rochester to take on Sky Blue FC on Saturday, May 21, at 7:00 p.m. ET. The Flash will host a free youth soccer tournament in conjunction with New York State West Youth Soccer Association ahead of the match for children ages 6 - 12. Tickets are available for the match at wnyflash.com/tickets and as well as a live stream of the game at youtube.com/NWSL.
