Eleven Barons Headline All-Star Selections

HOOVER, AL -On Tuesday, the Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs announced the South Division roster for the 2009 Southern League All-Star Game, a roster that includes 11 Birmingham Barons players.

Six Barons players will participate in the game including: C.J. Retherford (inf), Stefan Gartrell (of), David Cook (of), John Ely (rhp), Fernando Hernandez (rhp) and Jhonny Nunez (rhp). Five other Barons were named to the team, but are unable to participate due to promotion or selection to the futures game, they are: Brandon Allen (promoted to AAA), Lucas Harrell (promoted to AAA), Brian Omogrosso (promoted to AAA), Tyler Flowers (Futures Game) and Dayan Viciedo (Futures Game).

Players were selected by a vote of Southern League field managers, radio broadcasters, general managers and print media. All players on Southern League rosters as of June 10 were eligible in the voting. The Southern League will announce starting lineups for the North Division on July 1 and starting lineups for the South Division on July 2.

The 2009 Southern League All-Star Game will be played on Monday, July 13 at Regions Park in Birmingham, Ala. Tickets to the 2009 Southern League All-Star Game as well as to the 2009 Southern League Home Run Derby and Celebrity Softball Game are available online at barons.com or by calling the Regions Park Box Office. Tickets for both events can also be purchased by visiting the Regions Park Box Office. The Barons won the South Division First-Half Title and will open the playoffs on Thursday, September 10 at Regions Park. Game two will be played Friday, September 11 at Regions Park.
