Memphis Redbirds News Release

EL PASO, Texas - The Memphis Redbirds scored in four separate innings Monday night, but the El Paso Chihuahuas (Triple-A Padres) answered every time and took game one of the four-game series in El Paso, 11-5.

The loss was Memphis' (45-49) fifth-straight, which ties a season long both overall and for road games. El Paso (55-40), the league's best-hitting offense by 20 batting average points, hit four home runs on the night, and Memphis got long balls from Jose Martinez and Jacob Wilson. Wilson also doubled twice to finish 3-for-4 with two RBI.

On Memphis' current eight-game road trip, Wilson is 9-for-18 with four runs scored, four doubles, two home runs and six runs driven in.

Carson Kelly, Matt Williams and Harrison Bader also doubled in the game, and Kelly is 6-for-15 with six runs scored and three doubles in four games since joining the Redbirds.

The Redbirds scored a run in the second and two in the sixth, but the Chihuahuas did the same in the bottom-half of those innings. Memphis added a run in the seventh and another in the eighth, but El Paso responded with two in the bottom of the seventh and three in the bottom of the eighth to seal the game.

The Memphis offense struck out 14 times on the night, and the Redbirds were 2-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven on base.

The Redbirds and the Chihuahuas continue their series tomorrow night at 8:05 (CT) before Memphis returns to AutoZone Park for eight games against Iowa and Oklahoma City starting Friday. The upcoming homestand features a Redbirds Stephen Piscotty bobblehead gate giveaway and postgame fireworks on Saturday; a kids lunchbox giveaway on Sunday; and Hunting and Fishing Night that includes a camouflage Redbirds hat with a Theme Ticket purchase, as well as a Replica Cardinals 1926 World Series Ring gate giveaway, on Friday the 29th.
