Salt Lake Bees News Release
The Salt Lake Bees scored a pair of two-out runs in the eighth inning to defeat the Albuquerque Isotopes, 6-5, Sunday afternoon at Smith's Ballpark.
Salt Lake trailed 5-4 with the bases empty and two outs in the bottom of the eighth, but Cesar Puello and Ramon Flores singled to put the tying and go-ahead runs on base. Tony Sanchez singled to right to score Puello and Sherman Johnson grounded a single up the middle to plate Flores and give the Bees the lead. Sanchez led the Bees with three hits, Nolan Fontana scored twice, and Jefry Marte drove in two runs.
"I was looking for a pitch out over the plate, and luckily enough, I was able to get one and put a good swing on it," Johnson said of his game-winning hit. "I can't really look for anything other than a fastball when (the pitcher) throws that hard."
Doug Fister made his second start for the Bees and worked five and two-thirds innings, allowing one earned run on five hits. Manny Banuelos and Damien Magnifico worked the middle innings in relief of Fister, Jason Gurka (1-0) earned the victory, and Justin Miller got the final two outs to earn his team-leading ninth save.
After an off-day Monday, the Bees conclude their 11-game homestand with a four-game series against the Reno Aces. For tickets and additional information, visit slbees.com.
