Tucson Sidewinders News Release

Portland - The Portland Beavers scored eight runs in the bottom of the seventh inning on Wednesday night at PGE Park to erase a 9-3 deficit and beat the Sidewinders 11-10. The loss snaps Tucson's winning streak at ten consecutive games.

With Tucson leading 8-0 entering the sixth inning, Portland began their comeback. Justin Leone doubled home a run and Jack Cust had a two run double to cut the lead to 9-3.

In the seventh, Terrmel Sledge grounded to short against Mike Koplove to open the inning. Ben Johnson doubled into the left field corner and Paul McAnulty closed the gap to 9-5 with a two run blast to right. Koplove then walked Leone and gave up a single to Cust. Jon Knott reached on an error by Alberto Callaspo to load the bases. After a wild pitch scored Leone, Jason Hill walked to re-load the bases. Koplove was pulled in favor of Mike Schultz who came on and struck out pinch hitter Kennard Jones for the second out of the inning, but Manny Alexander lined a single to right center to make it 9-8 and Sledge clubbed a three run homer to right to put Portland in front 11-9.

Scott Hairston's 17th home run of the season leading off in the ninth pulled the Sidewinders to within a run but their rally perished there as Chris Young, Chris Carter and Kenny Perez were retired by Jason Anderson.

Jim Brower (1-2) earned the win with two innings of relief. Schultz (2-1) took the loss after being charged with two runs in his two thirds of an inning.

The Sidewinders and Beavers will wrap up their four game series on Thursday night at PGE Park. Right hander Micah Owings (0-0 0.00) will make his Triple-A debut for the Sidewinders against right-hander Tim Stauffer (3-5 4.40) for Portland. First pitch is at 7:05. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 6:50.
