Stockton Thunder News Release

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Edmonton Oilers and San Jose Sharks, announced that Edmonton has reassigned goaltender Bryan Pitton (PITT-in) to the Thunder from the Oklahoma City Barons of the American Hockey League.

Pitton, 22, ranked second in the ECHL at the time of his last recall with a 1.91 goals-against-average and is 4-0-1 in six ECHL appearances this season, additionally collecting a .922 save percentage and one shutout.

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound goaltender earned the third ECHL award of his career on Nov. 9 after going 2-0-0 with a goals against average of 0.96 and a save percentage of .956 in three appearances against Pacific Division rival Bakersfield from Nov. 5-7.

The native of Brampton, Ontario is under contract with Edmonton of the National Hockey League after being selected by the Oilers in the fifth round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

Earning two recalls directly to Edmonton from Stockton last season, he skated for the Oilers in the 2010 YoungStars Tournament in September and was third in the 2010 Kelly Cup Playoffs with a 1.70 goals-against average and was tied for first with a .943 save percentage.

Pitton has also made 11 appearances in the American Hockey League for Springfield and Oklahoma City since 2008. This year, he has totaled a 1-1-0 record, .891 save percentage and 3.52 goals-against-average in two games this season with Oklahoma City.

His reassignment comes on the same day the Oilers assigned goaltender Martin Gerber to Oklahoma City. Pitton should be available to suit up for the Thunder for the team's next road game, tonight against the Victoria Salmon Kings at 7:05 p.m. (StocktonThunder.com).

Additionally, it was announced defenseman Daryl Marcoux was placed on the seven-day injured reserve list and goaltender Tyson Sexsmith was transferred to the 21-day injured reserve list.

A two-time recipient of the ECHL "Award of Excellence," Thunder has led the ECHL in attendance for four consecutive seasons, was voted "Best Local Sports Team" by readers of the San Joaquin Magazine for the third straight year, and drew over 200,000 fans for the fifth consecutive season in 2009-10. Season Tickets, mini-plans and individual tickets for 2010-11 are on sale now.
