Everett Silvertips News Release

EDMONTON - Payton Lee earned his sixth career shutout and first with the Edmonton Oil Kings with 27 saves, helping Edmonton slip past the Everett Silvertips, 1-0 before a crowd of 5,794 at Rexall Place on Friday night.

The loss was the first the Silvertips suffered since Dec. 27, ending a streak of 9-0-2 in 11 games, tied for their fourth longest unbeaten streak in regulation in franchise history. Sherwood Park native Carter Hart, in his first career appearance at Edmonton, backstopped the Silvertips 23 saves.

Everett's lead for first place in the U.S. Division stood at five points over Seattle by the end of the night.

Hart had to be sharp out of the gate in the Silvertips final all-time visit to Rexall Place and stopped Edmonton leading scorer Brett Pollock just 17 seconds into the game with a right pad save, and contained Lane Bauer on another scoring chance from between the circles late in the first period to preserve the scoreless tie.

The Silvertips responded by earning the majority of good looks at the Edmonton net in the second period. Their best chance came on the attack, when Dawson Leedahl corralled a long outlet at the left wing and quickly whipped a cross-ice pass to Carson Stadnyk, wide open at the right wing, Stadnyk streaked to the net but Lee turned away his wrist shot.

Everett fell short on five power play opportunities, and Edmonton took full advantage on a Dario Winkler interference penalty at 8:27 of the third period. Off the ensuing face-off at the right circle, Bauer and Pollock worked a deflection to Dario Meyer, stationed wide open at the net. Meyer's wrist shot trickled past Hart for a power-play goal and 1-0 lead, 8:33 into the period.

The Silvertips responded in search of a spark by pairing Brycen Martin and Noah Juulsen defensively, and with two minutes left pulled Hart for a sixth attacker. Following a time-out, the Silvertips hemmed Edmonton into their own zone, but Lee turned away two close-range chances to help close the game.
