Edman Ties Franchise Record as Chiefs Blast Kernels

Peoria, IL - Tommy Edman tied a Peoria Chiefs franchise record with two triples in a 15-3 victory over the Cedar Rapids Kernels on Wednesday afternoon at Dozer Park. The Chiefs snapped a four-game losing streak and are 6-6 overall as they head into a four game road series with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Thursday at 6:35 PM.
Peoria jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning. Edman led off against Kernels starter Eduardo Del Rosario with a double to center field. Stefan Trosclair walked with one out, and Andrew Knizner connected on a single through the middle to give the Chiefs a 1-0 lead. Brian O'Keefe drove home Trosclair on a single to center, and Matt Davis knocked in Knizner on a single to spot Jordan Hicks a 3-0 lead.
Cedar Rapids responded in the top of the second inning. Mitchell Kranson singled to center field and moved to second on a wild pitch. Ariel Montesino singled with one out and Aaron Whitefield followed with a double that scored Kranson to make it 3-1. Christian Cavaness followed with an infield single that scored Montesino, and Jermaine Palacios drove in Whitefield with a single to tie the game, 3-3.
Shane Billings led off the second with a bunt-single for the Chiefs and scored when Edman tripled off the wall in right field to give Peoria a 4-3 advantage. J.R. Davis singled to score Edman and made it a 5-3 game.
Dylan Carlson led off the third and was hit by a pitch. He advanced to second on an error by Palacios that put Billings on first base. Both runners advanced on a balk by Hector Lujan, and Carlson made it 6-3 when he scored on a wild pitch.
Peoria added to their lead in the fourth inning. O'Keefe reached on a fielder's choice and Matt Davis singled with two outs. Carlson legged out an inside the park home run that scored both O'Keefe and Matt Davis to extend the Chiefs lead to 9-3.
More run support came in the fifth inning when Edman led off with a single. J.R. Davis singled and Trosclair powered a ball over the left field fence for a three-run home run that gave Peoria a 12-3 lead. Andrew Knizner doubled in the next at-bat, and scored when Young singled and made it 13-3.
The Chiefs padded their lead in the seventh when Matt Davis worked a lead off walk. Edman ripped his second triple of the game that scored Matt Davis and made it 14-3. With two outs a wild pitch scored Edman for the final score of 15-3.
Hicks (2-0) struck out a career-high eight hitters over seven innings while he allowed three runs on seven hits. Eric Carter threw one perfect inning with a strikeout. Estarlin Arias struck out two in one inning of work.
