January 10, 2013 - Champions Professional Indoor Football League (CPIFL) - Bloomington Edge
The Bloomington Edge, presented by Heller Stores, have signed seven players who participated in the team's open tryout last month.
Those signed after the December 15 tryout at Illinois Wesleyan University's Shirk Center include wide receiver Wes Schmidgall, safety Eric Fisher, wide receiver/defensive back Donald Brown, running back/defensive back Mike Minehan, defensive end Alonziea Moore, safety Lee Adams and linebacker Sam Fornelli.
"The tryout was a huge success," said Edge head coach Kenton Carr. "I was very surprised at the talent we had this year. I can't wait to see these guys compete in camp when it starts at the end of February."
Schmidgall was one of the top pass-catchers in Eureka College history. He ranks second in school history under head coach Kurt Barth in receptions (196), receiving yards (3,631) and touchdown receptions (43), and was named to the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference first team in 2011.
Fisher played four seasons at Illinois College, leading the Midwest Conference in interceptions in 2010 and 2011.
Brown has considerable semi-pro experience and was named Most Valuable Player of the Great Midwest Football League. Fornelli also has considerable semi-pro experience while playing in Springfield.
Minehan registered the most tackles (313) by a defensive back in Eureka College history and was a first team Upper Midwest Athletic Conference selection in 2010 and 2011.
Moore has been a standout with the Peoria County Hawks and Capital City Outlaws, earning All-Star status in each of his three seasons.
