April 16, 2013 - North American Soccer League (NASL) - FC Edmonton
Edmonton, Alberta (April 16, 2013) - FC Edmonton continue to finish off their roster after the first two games of the 2013 NASL season.
Central midfielder Robert Garrett signed with the FC Edmonton team on Saturday, on loan from Northern Ireland side Linfield, and needed to pass a medical before officially joining the team.
The 24-year-old completed the medical this morning and will be introduced to the team at training today.
Garrett joined Linfield FC in 2008 after a few years at Stoke City and Wrexham in England. It was also in 2008 when Garrett received his first call up to the Northern Ireland U21 team. After 15 appearances with the side, he graduated to the senior Northern Ireland side in 2009.
It won't take very long for Garrett to settle in to the Eddies side - fellow ex-Linfield players Daryl Fordyce and Albert Watson will make him feel at home and help to introduce him to North American soccer.
"I'm a good friend of Robert's I played with him for a long time," said current Eddie striker Daryl Fordyce.
Fordyce played with Garrett for the last year and a half at Linfield.
"He's a very good player," he added. "He works hard and is an excellent central midfielder."
Garrett will train with the team this week before they head off to Minnesota for April 20. He will be available for selection.
FC Edmonton is training in Spruce Grove today at Fuhr Sports Park. Training times are 10:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.
