ECHL Officials hold preseason training camp

PRINCETON, N.J. - The ECHL will hold its annual On-Ice Officials training
camp beginning Friday and concluding Sunday at the WesBanco Arena in
Wheeling, West Virginia.
The ECHL has invited all referees and a group of linesmen to the camp which
will be supervised by ECHL Vice President of Hockey Operations Rod Pasma
and conducted by veteran NHL official and ECHL Director of Officiating Gord
Broseker with assistance from ECHL Officiating Consultant Bryan Lewis and
ECHL Supervisors Mark Faucette, Jerry Pateman, Dennis Parrish and Mark
Rudolph.
In addition to on-ice sessions, the officials will be given rules tests
with an emphasis on the new rules implemented by the ECHL in 2005-06.
Wheeling Nailers coach Glenn Patrick and Wheeling Off-Ice Official Crew
Chief Roger Kerr have been invited to speak and offer insight from their
respective positions. The officials will begin working ECHL preseason games
on Tuesday when Stockton hosts Fresno at Gateway Ice Arena and Dayton
visits Alaska at Sullivan Arena. The 2005-06 regular season will begin
Friday, October 21. The ECHL has more than 100 officials, who live across
North America. Pasma, Broseker, Lewis, Faucette, Pateman, Parrish, Rudolph
and Ken Wheler will travel around the league supervising and critiquing
officials while also meeting with coaches and players with regards to game
situations and rules interpretations.
In his fourth season with the ECHL, Pasma was Officiating Coordinator with
the NHL for two seasons from 1998-2000. Broseker spent almost 30 years as a
linesman in the NHL working over 1,863 regular season games and more than
200 Stanley Cup Playoff games, including five Stanley Cup Finals. Lewis was
the Director of Officiating for the NHL from 1989-2000 after working 20
years and more than 1,000 games as a referee in the NHL, including the 1981
All-Star Game and the 1984 Canada Cup Finals. Faucette worked more than
1,000 games in 17 seasons as a referee in the NHL and was chosen to work
the Olympics in 1984 and 1988 as well as the 1996 NHL All-Star Game.
Rudolph was Officiating Program Director for USA Hockey for 12 years and
served nine years as a supervisor of officials for the International Ice
Hockey Federation and six years as a supervisor of officials for the NHL.
