Eastern League Names Pitcher, Player Of The Week

PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the winners of the Eastern League Player of the Week Award and Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the week ending April 25th :

Bowie Baysox infielder/outfielder Paco Figueroa has been named the Eastern League Player of the Week for the week ending April 25th . The 27-year old had an outstanding week for the Baysox, batting .481 (13-for-27) with four doubles, one home run, eight runs scored, seven RBI, three walks, two stolen bases and a .741 slugging percentage over seven games. Figueroa, who is a native of Miami, Florida, finished the week with a six-game hitting streak and had multiple hits in five of the seven games he played in during the week. The 5'11-, 180 lb. slugger led all Eastern League players in batting average (.481), hits (13) and runs scored (8) last week and also finished among the league leaders in OPS (1.241-2nd ), total bases (20-2nd ), slugging percentage (.741-3rd ), on-base percentage (.500-tied 3rd ), RBI (7-tied 3rd ), doubles (4-tied 4th ) and extra -base hits (5-tied 4th ). Figueroa has appeared in games at third base, second base, right field and DH for the Baysox this season while batting .351, which is tied for fourth in the league. Paco, who hit .305 with 18 doubles in 62 games as a member of the Baysox last season, was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the ninth round of the 2005 draft after hitting .361 with 70 runs scored during his senior season at the University of Miami.

Phillippe Aumont, a right-handed starting pitcher for the Reading Phillies, is the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 25th . The 6'7-, 254 lb. hurler made a pair of starts for the R-Phils last week and posted a record of 1-1 with a 0.82 ERA and nine strikeouts in 11 innings pitched. The 21-year old made his first start of the week on Monday night at Harrisburg and took the loss despite allowing just one run on three hits while striking out five batters and not issuing a walk over five innings of work. The Gatineau, Quebec native was even more impressive in his second start of week, tossing six no-hit innings in a 2-0 win over the visiting Richmond Flying Squirrels on Sunday afternoon at FirstEnergy Stadium. He struck out four batters and walked two while earning his first win of the season and lowering his ERA to 3.32. Phillippe, who was rated 47th on the MLB.com Top 50 Prospect List entering this season, was acquired by the Philadelphia Phillies along with RHP J.C. Ramirez and OF Tyson Gillies from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for 2008 America League Cy Young Award winner Cliff Lee on December 16, 2009. Aumont was originally selected by the Mariners in the first round of the 2007 draft as the 11th overall pick.
