Eastern League Names Pitcher and Player of the Week

PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the winners of the Eastern League Player of the Week Award and Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the period of April 4th through April 14th:

Richmond Flying Squirrels third baseman Adam Duvall has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of April 4th-April 14th. The 24-year old is hitting .378 (13-for-34) with six doubles, one triple, two home runs, 10 RBI, eight runs scored, six walks and a .757 slugging percentage in 11 games for the Flying Squirrels since the start of the season. Duvall, who is a native of Louisville, Kentucky, has reached base in all 11 games he has played in for the Flying Squirrels this season and has collected multiple hits in four of those games, including going 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBI and three runs scored in a 12-10 win over Bowie on April 8th. The 6'1", 205 lb. slugger currently leads the league in doubles (6), extra-base hits (9) and total bases (28) and is also ranked among the league leaders in slugging percentage (.757-2nd), OPS (1.222-2nd), home runs (2-tied 3rd), triples (1-tied 3rd), RBI (10-tied 4th), hits (14-tied 5th) and batting average (.378-6th). Adam, who was a California League All-Star last season after hitting .258 with a league-high 30 home runs for the San Jose Giants, was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the 11th round of the 2010 draft out of the University of Louisville.

Chris Martin, a right-handed relief pitcher for the Portland Sea Dogs, has been selected as the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of April 4th-April 14th. The 6'7", 175 lb. hurler appeared in three games for the Sea Dogs last week and had a record of 1-0 with 12 strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA. Martin, who is a native of Arlington, Texas, made his season debut on April 5th against the Trenton Thunder and struck out seven batters while surrendering just one walk and two hits over three shutout innings to earn a hold in a 7-4 victory. He followed that up with three more shutout innings in a 3-2 loss against Reading on April 9th and picked up his first win of the year with three more shutout innings in a 6-5, 10-inning victory at New Britain on April 13th. The 26-year old currently leads the league in WHIP (0.67) and is also ranked among the league leaders in ERA (0.00-tied 1st), fewest base runners per nine innings (6.0-3rd), holds (1-tied 4th) and batting average against (.138). Chris, who posted a record of 3-6 with 65 strikeouts and a 4.48 ERA over 76.1 innings of work in 23 appearances for the Sea Dogs last season, was signed by the Boston Red Sox as a Minor League free agent on March 31, 2011.
