San Jose Earthquakes News Release


San Jose Earthquakes players reported to Avaya Stadium for the first day of preseason today, kicking off 2018.

The Quakes will host their media day on Wednesday, Jan. 24. Players and coaches will be available for interviews immediately following the team's training session. It marks the first opportunity for media to speak with new head coach Mikael Stahre and recent player signings such as midfielder Eric Calvillo, defender Joel Qwiberg, goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski and many more. Media are asked to arrive at 11 a.m. and will be treated to a lunch inside Avaya Stadium following training.

This week, the Earthquakes will host an open training session, complete with the Black and Blue Scrimmage, on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 12 p.m., open to Season Pass Holders only. Tickets to the match, while complimentary, should be claimed via the Earthquakes Account Manager.

Earthquakes to Host Media Day on Wednesday, Jan. 24 The San Jose Earthquakes will host their annual Media Day on Wednesday, Jan. 24. The team's first training session of 2018 will be open to the media, followed by player and coach availability. Media are invited to attend the club's training session by arriving at 11 a.m. Training is expected to conclude between 11:45 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. Film crews and photographers are welcome.

Earthquakes Acquire 21-Year Old Center Back Yeferson Quintana The club has acquired Yeferson Quintana from Uruguayan power Penarol on a season-long loan with an option to buy. During the 2017 season, Quintana tallied three goals and two assists in 29 appearances, helping his side win the championship with a 26-3-8 regular-season record. Earthquakes Select Four Players in 2018 SuperDraft The Earthquakes selected Florida International University defender Paul Marie in the first round (No. 12 overall) and UNLV's Danny Musovski (No. 30) and University of Louisville's Mohamed Thiaw (No. 35) in the second round of the 2018 MLS SuperDraft. The Earthquakes selected UNLV midfielder Kevin Partida in the third round (No. 58 overall) and passed in the fourth round of the 2018 MLS SuperDraft. Earthquakes Sign 20-Year-Old USYNT Midfielder Eric Calvillo The Earthquakes signed Eric Calvillo from North American Soccer League's New York Cosmos on a multi-year contract. Calvillo scored one goal in three appearances during his Championship-winning rookie season in 2016, and tallied three goals and one assist in 16 league appearances (13 starts) in 2017.

Earthquakes Trade Midfielder Darwin Ceren to Houston Dynamo, Acquire Allocation Money The Earthquakes announced that the club has traded midfielder Darwin Ceren to the Houston Dynamo in exchange for $100,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) and $75,000 in Targeted Allocation Money. San Jose can also receive an additional $50,000 in GAM in 2019 based on his performance next season. Get Earthquakes Fit presented by Sutter Health

THIS WEEK IN EARTHQUAKES HISTORY - Jan. 22, 2014 - Signed Tommy Thompson as the Club's First Homegrown Player The San Jose Earthquakes signed midfielder Tommy Thompson to as the club's first Homegrown Player. 2017 proved to be a memorable year for Thompson, who earned many career-high accomplishments: his first goal for the club, four assists, 16 starts and 1,534 minutes played. Besides his efforts on the pitch, Tommy won the club's Andrew Bedard Spirit of the Game Award/Humanitarian of the Year award for his charitable efforts. In 2016, Tommy was selected for the Chipotle Homegrown game against Mexico U-20 squad and captained the Homegrown side in the first half.

Jan. 26, 2016 - Announced Jersey Partnership with Sutter Health The Earthquakes announced a historic multi-year partnership agreement that includes the Northern California healthcare network's name on the front of the Earthquakes jerseys.

ACADEMY UPDATE - Earthquakes Girls' Academy player Sophie Jones helped the U-17 USWNT defeat Venezuela's U-17 side twice in their two game series in St. Petersburg, Fla. Jones started the first match, tallying an assist in their 8-0 win against Venezuela. The U-17 USWNT won their second match against Venezuela 4-0 with Jones making an appearance in the 71st minute.

The Quakes Academy Boys return to action on Saturday, Jan. 27, with the U-15s (10 a.m.), U-17s (12:30 p.m.) and U-19s (3 p.m.) taking on Sacramento Republic FC at Cosumnes River College in Sacramento.
