Early Offense Sustains Nuts in 7-5 Win

Lake Elsinore, CA. - A four-run first backed Konner Wade in the Modesto Nuts' 7-5 win against the Lake Elsinore Storm on Thursday night at The Diamond.

Wade (W, 8-8) tossed 6.2 innings and allowed just one run while working around eight hits with six strikeouts and no walks.

The Nuts (65-65; 32-28) jumped out early in the first. Michael Benjamin Jr. cracked a two-run homer and Correlle Prime drove in two with a single against Travis Radke (L, 0-3). Prime added his third RBI with a double in the eighth.

Ryan McMahon clubbed a fifth-inning home run and Wilfredo Rodriguez added an insurance run on a single which proved to be big late.

In the ninth, the Storm (47-83; 16-44) plated four against Rayan Gonzalez who was removed with two outs in the inning and the tying run at the plate. Matt Carasiti (S, 20/22) came in and got the last out to end the threat and secure the series victory.

The Nuts begin their final home series of the year on Friday night at John Thurman Field.
