 San Antonio Missions

Early Offense and Strong Kelly Start Ignite Missions

San Antonio Missions News Release

A big second-inning rally and a strong start by Michael Kelly keyed San Antonio's 6-3 win over Frisco in the opener of a four-game series Monday night at Wolff Stadium.

Coming off a disappointing end to a road trip in Midland, the Missions were looking to benefit from some home cooking Monday evening.

After Kelly set Frisco down in order in the first, the San Antonio bats quickly went to work against fellow righty Ariel Jurado (1-2). Luis Urias grounded out to start the frame, but each of the next three Missions hit safely. The last of the consecutive hits, a Franmil Reyes double to left, scored Noah Perio with the game's first run.

An inning later, San Antonio took advantage of a throwing error by shortstop Isiah Kiner-Falefa to plate four runs. Urias and Perio each drove in pair with a single and double respectively.

The RoughRiders did not collect their first hit off Kelly until Scott Heineman led off the fourth with a single. Frisco would eventually score a pair in the frame to cut the San Antonio lead to 5-2. In the top of the fifth, the 'Riders closed within two when Jose Cardona tripled and then later came in on a Heineman sacrifice fly.

Kelly (1-1) made sure that was all the damage Frisco would do on the night. The Boynton Beach, FL native went a club, season-high seven innings, allowing just five hits and one walk, while fanning a season-high seven.

The Missions tacked on an insurance run in the eighth when Fernando Perez scored on a Clayton Cook wild pitch.

Eric Yardley and Chad Nading (2nd save) combined on the final two innings to close out the San Antonio victory.

San Antonio (9-8) resumes its four-game series with Frisco (8-9) on AARP's $2 Tuesday presented by KCWX. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM. Right-hander Enyel De Los Santos (1-0, 2.40) will take the ball for the Missions, while the 'Riders counter with southpaw Yohander Mendez (1-0, 3.78).
