Early Hole Too Large to Climb out of in 6-4 Loss

Modesto, CA. - A four-run second by the San Jose Giants was enough to send the Modesto Nuts to a 6-4 loss on Monday night at John Thurman Field.

With the Ports winning tonight, the Nuts (35-29) lead in the North Division has been cut to one game with six games left in the first half.

Joey Curletta put the Nuts up first with a RBI single in the bottom of the first. In the second inning, the Giants (28-36) came back with four runs against Nathan Bannister (L, 2-4). Dillon Dobson started the rally with a lead off single. Gio Brusa followed with a RBI double. He scored when Jonah Arenado followed with a RBI double of his own. After Bannister got the next two outs, Ryan Howard delivered a two-run single. Matt Pare added a solo homer in the fourth.

Bannister worked six innings and allowed ten hits allowing five runs with two strikeouts and no walks.

Arturo Nieto homered in the second inning. In the fifth, Braden Bishop lined a RBI double and scored on Logan Taylor 's RBI single. In the sixth, the Nuts put the tying run in scoring position but Mike Connolly (W, 4-5) was able to strand that man on the way to the Giants' series-opening victory. Connolly worked six innings and allowed eight hits leading to four runs with four strikeouts.

Dylan Rheault (S, 4/4) struck out the side in the ninth to shut the door.
