Wilmington, DE - The Wilmington Blue Rocks (53-43/14-12) were unable to dig out of an early deficit and ultimately fell to the Potomac Nationals (41-53/8-16) 7-3 Tuesday night at Frawley Stadium. The Blue Rocks trailed 3-0 after the first inning and were never able to play catch-up as the Rocks dropped their final meeting of the year against Potomac. Chris DeVito paced the offense with three hits. Despite the loss, the Rocks capped off the week-long homestand with a 5-2 record, including back-to-back series wins against Lynchburg and Potomac.

Potomac broke out to an early lead against righty Scott Blewett. The P-Nats started the game off with four consecutive hits, including an RBI double from Austin Davidson and Taylor Gushue to highlight the three run inning, putting Wilmington behind 3-0. In the second, Jonathan McCray blasted a two-out solo home run in his return to Wilmington to put the Blue Crew on the board, 3-1.

In the third inning, Gushue launched a two-out solo homer to make it a 4-1 hole for Wilmington As Blewett started to settle in, the Rocks tried to formulate a rally in the sixth inning. Wander Franco and Roman Collins stroked back-to-back singles to put runners at the corners with no outs. With Chase Vallot at the plate, Franco scored on a wild pitch to cut the Blue Rocks deficit in half, 4-2.

Potomac broke the game open in the eighth inning. A one-out homer from David Masters made it a 5-2 game before an error and wild pitch allowed two more runs to score for Potomac, increasing the deficit for the Blue Rocks, 7-2. In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Rocks got a run back after Collins led the inning off with a double before he scored all the way from second base on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Vallot to make it 7-3.

Blewett battled his way through seven innings of work and suffered the loss although he settled in after allowing the early four runs. Offensively, Chris DeVito paced the offense with a trio of hits.

Wilmington is back in action on Thursday, July 20 when they begin a four-game series against the Frederick Keys at Nymeo Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. with RHP Jared Ruxer (4-3, 3.39 ERA) making the start for the Blue Rocks. Fans can listen to the game as Matt Janus has the call for 89.7 WGLS-FM.
