Colorado Eagles News Release

LOVELAND, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles picked up a 6-1 win over the San Francisco Bulls in the first of back-to-back games between the teams. The Eagles were led offensively by Chad Costello (1-4-5) & Jack Combs (2-2-4), and defensively by Kyle Jones (26 saves). The well-rounded victory snapped a five game winless streak for Colorado (celebrating their 10th anniversary season), the longest in their history.

The Eagles got the only goal of an exciting first period of play. Thirteen minutes into the period, rookie defenseman Arthur Bidwill pinched down the right wing wall to keep the puck in the offensive zone. Then he sent a cross-ice pass from deep in the zone to Combs who quickly sent a laser of a shot top-shelf past Thomas Heemskerk.

Colorado continued to find the back of the net with some pretty plays in the second session, tallying a pair of goals to take a 3-0 lead into the third. Aaron Schneekloth made it 2-0 six and a half minutes in to cap off a play that started when Michael Forney sent a nice area pass down the right wing for Costello. Costello then found Combs with a cross-slot pass, and after his shot was stopped by the Bulls' netminder, a crashing Schneekloth was there to put the puck home.

Just over a minute later, the Eagles took a 3-0 lead when rookie Dylan Hood set up Trent Daavettila in the high slot, where he placed a pin-point shot into the top right corner of the cage behind Heemskerk.

The theme continued in the third period when Colorado capitalized on another pretty play as Combs collected his second goal of the game from between the hash marks at 4:17. San Francisco finally got on the board at 13:12 when Chris Lawrence one-timed a shot from the right circle for a power-play goal. The tally snapped a streak of 23 consecutive successful penalty kills for Colorado (the last man-advantage marker they allowed was scored on Oct. 19).

But the Eagles countered with a power-play marker of their own just over a minute later when Costello made it 5-1 from the doorstep. And with just 8.2 seconds remaining, they cashed in again -- this time while working a 5-on-3 advantage -- when Forney poked home a Costello rebound.
