Eagles Power Past Kraemer's Hat Trick in 6-3 Win over Ontario

Colorado Eagles News Release

ONTARIO, Calif. - The Colorado Eagles doubled up the Pacific Division-leading Ontario Reign, 6-3, on the strength of four power play goals. Kevin Ulanski (2-1-3) and Joey Sides (1-2-3) each had a three-point game to help power Colorado's offense past Kyle Kraemer's hat trick.

After scoring just once on their previous 99 shots over the previous two games, the Eagles' offensive floodgates opened in the first period as they scored three goals on 10 shots. All three goals came via the team's top-ranked power play, which also snapped out of a funk after going 0-for-10 over the past two games.

Michael Forney got the game's first goal at 9:14 when he deflected a Collin Bowman shot past Dustin Carlson. The Eagles struck again two minutes later when Sides skated through the right circle and found Ulanski in the left circle for another power-play tally. Sides made it 3-0 at 14:36 -- during the same five minute major power play -- by deflecting a Trent Daavettila shot from the right point into the Ontario net from the low slot.

Two minutes later, the Reign got on the board when Kraemer swatted a rebound out of the air from the doorstep. The home team had a golden opportunity to cut Colorado's lead to one heading into the first period, but the Eagles were able to kill a lengthy 5-on-3 Reign power play late in the frame.

At 3:35 of the second period Kraemer picked up his second consecutive goal to cut Colorado's lead to 3-2. Kyle Jones stopped Mario Lamoureux's shot and was in the process of corralling the rebound to freeze the puck when Kraemer poked it past the netminder. The Eagles' power play countered at 8:15 when Ulanski skated out from behind the net and snapped a shot past Carlson for his second goal of the game.

Six minutes into the final frame, Kraemer put home another rebound from the doorstep to notch a hat trick and cut Colorado's lead down to a single goal once more. But at 10:51, A.J. Hau carried the puck down the left wing and scored an insurance goal on a bad-angle shot from below the left circle. And Arthur Bidwill added an empty-netter from center ice in the final minute to ice the contest.
