November 2, 2017 - ECHL (ECHL) - Colorado Eagles
BOISE, ID. - Idaho forwards Jefferson Dahl and Steve McParland each scored a pair of goals, as the Steelheads handed the Colorado Eagles a 6-4 loss in Boise on Wednesday. Michael Joly, J.C. Beaudin, Jake Marto and Matt Register all turned in multi-point performances in the losing effort for Colorado.
The Eagles fell behind early when a 2-on-1 rush led to Idaho forward Justin Parizek flinging a backhander into the back of the net just 4:14 into the contest to give the Steelheads a 1-0 lead. Colorado would kill off a 5-on-3 power play later in the period, while goaltender Sam Brittain made several big saves throughout the opening 20 minutes of play.
Moving into the second period, Colorado would level the score on a 5-on-3 power play when defenseman Matt Register stepped into a slapshot from the high slot and beat Steelheads goalie Philippe Desrosiers to tie the game at 1-1 just 4:36 into the middle frame.
Less than two minutes later, Idaho would reclaim the lead when Dahl deflected a shot past Brittain to make it a 2-1 advantage for the Steelheads. The lead would be stretched to 3-1 when McParland powered his way down the ice and across the top of the crease before slipping the puck between Brittain's pads to make it a 3-1 Idaho advantage at the 16:35 mark of the second period.
With momentum now on their side, the Steelheads would take advantage of an Eagles turnover at center ice to spur a 2-on-1 rush that would end with Dahl lighting the lamp for the second time in the contest and putting Idaho on top 4-1 with 2:20 remaining in the period.
Needing to stem the tide, Eagles forward Michael Joly would tip a shot from the blueline past Desrosiers to trim the Steelheads lead to 4-2 with only eight seconds remaining in the middle frame.
Trailing by two goals after 40 minutes, Colorado's hole would grow deeper when Idaho forward Henrik Samuelsson put the Steelheads up 5-2 with a wrist shot from the right circle that lit the lamp at the 7:44 mark of the third period.
The Eagles would strike back less than two minutes later when defenseman Jake Marto fired a shot from the blue line that weaved its way through traffic and hit the back of the net to cut the Steelheads advantage to 5-3.
Colorado would pull Brittain in favor of the extra attacker, but it would be McParland who would force a turnover and fire the puck into the empty with 1:06 remaining in regulation to give Idaho the 6-3 lead.
The Eagles would not go away, as defenseman Gabriel Verpaelst scored his second goal of the season with a slapshot from the point that trimmed the lead to 6-4 with 47 seconds to play in the contest. Colorado would again pull Brittain, but would not be able to generate any scoring, falling by a final score of 6-4.
The Eagles finished the night going 1-for-6 on the power play, while holding the Steelheads 0-for-2 on the man-advantage. Brittain suffered the loss in net, making 36 saves on 41 shots. Desrosiers claimed the win, turning aside 25 of Colorado's 29 shots on the evening.
The Eagles continue their three-game series against the Steelheads when the two teams square-off at CenturyLink Arena in Boise, Idaho on Friday, November 3rd at 7:10pm MT.
