Dynamo Protect 11 Players Ahead of MLS Expansion Draft

HOUSTON- The Houston Dynamo have officially protected 11 players in advance of tomorrow's MLS Expansion Draft, the club announced today. By protecting the players, they cannot be selected in the Expansion Draft by either Atlanta United or Minnesota United, Major League Soccer's two newest clubs.
The players that the Dynamo protected are MF Eric Alexander, D Jalil Anibaba, F Will Bruin, MF Ricardo Clark, MF Jose Escalante, MF Boniek García, MF Alex Lima, F Mauro Manotas, F Erick Torres, MF Andrew Wenger and GK Joe Willis.
GK Tyler Deric and MF Christian Lucatero are designated as Homegrown Players and are not eligible for selection, and did not have to be included on the list of protected players.
The Expansion Draft will provide an opportunity for expansion clubs Atlanta United and Minnesota United FC to add up to five players each to their inaugural rosters. Following the Expansion Priority Draft, held on Oct. 16, Atlanta United will have the first selection in the Expansion Draft.
Clubs may only lose up to one player in the Expansion Draft. Once a player from a club's roster has been selected by either Atlanta or Minnesota, that club is eliminated from the Expansion Draft and no further players are eligible for selection.
