Ben Sheckler twirled a gem and the offense delivered on Monday night at Gesa Stadium in the 10-1 victory for the Tri-City Dust Devils (11-8, 31-26) over the Hillsboro Hops. Sheckler earned the win after allowing just two hits in seven scoreless innings of work.
Tyler Benson again had a big night at the plate for the Dust Devils. Benson had two hits, drove in two runs, and had two walks. Luis Almanzar broke the game open for Tri-City in the bottom of the seventh inning. Almanzar hit a three-run home run, the second of his professional career, to extend the team's lead to seven runs. In addition to the Dust Devils' ten hits, the team was also helped by the six walks and two hit batters surrendered by Hillsboro's pitching staff. Vancouver also won on Monday night, keeping the Dust Devils and Canadians in a tie for first place in the Northwest League's North Division.
Left-hander Aaron Leasher will start the series finale for Tri-City on Tuesday night. Hillsboro will counter with right-hander Brian Shaffer. It will be $21 An Out Night presented by Century 21 Tri-Cities.
