Norfolk Tides News Release

Old Dominion product Ryan Yarbrough spun seven shutout innings to help pitch the Durham Bulls to a 4-0 win over the Tides Saturday night at Harbor Park.

Yarbrough (9-4), who was originally selected by Seattle in the 4th round of the 2014 draft out of ODU, limited the Tides to three hits and one walk while striking out seven. He faced just three batters over the minimum and threw 67 of his 102 pitches for strikes as he earned his third victory at Harbor Park this season.

Norfolk's only threat against Yarbrough came in the first frame, when Francisco Peña doubled to right but was later thrown out at home plate after a single by Pedro Álvarez. Luis Sardiñas had the Tides other hit against Yarbrough, who combined with Diego Castillo and Andrew Kittredge on Durham's 13th shutout win of the season.

In five starts against Norfolk this season, Yarbrough has now gone 3-0 with a 1.35 ERA (5 ER, 33.1 IP), 34 strikeouts and 19 hits allowed.

Norfolk starter Tyler Wilson (2-6) took the loss after allowing four runs on nine hits over five-plus innings of work. Wilson walked one and struck out a pair, but yielded three runs in the third frame and another in the fifth as he dropped to 0-3 at Harbor Park this season.

Jake Bauers had four hits and a run scored to lead the Bulls offense, while Casey Gillaspie added three hits and Mike Marjama clubbed a two-run home run.

Norfolk's bullpen of Paul Fry and Logan Verrett combined to fire four shutout innings of relief, striking out two while allowing three hits.

The two clubs will wrap up their four-game series Sunday afternoon at Harbor Park, with first pitch slated for 4:05. In a battle of right-handers, Gabriel Ynoa (1-8, 7.64) starts for Norfolk while the Bulls will counter with Hunter Wood (3-1, 6.57).
