August 1, 2017 - Florida State League (FSL) - Clearwater Threshers
CLEARWATER, Fla. - Carlos Duran drove in three runs to lead the Clearwater comeback on Monday night, as the Threshers rallied late to take the series from Fort Myers with a 6-3 victory at Spectrum Field.
Clearwater (58-50, 20-18) overcame a pair of deficits and put up five runs between the seventh and eighth innings. Duran keyed the comeback with a two-run, game-tying blast in the seventh inning, and added an RBI double to cap the scoring in the eighth.
Trevor Bettencourt (2-0) earned the win with two scoreless innings in relief, allowing just an infield hit and striking out two.
The Miracle struck first in the second, when Brent Rooker lofted a solo home run out to right-center off Edgar Garcia, putting the Miracle ahead, 1-0.
Zach Green led the first rally with a single to right to open the fourth, and Jan Hernandez followed with a knock to left. Both advanced on a grounder, and with two outs, a wild pitch permitted Green to cross and tie the game at one.
Fort Myers (55-51, 22-16) took advantage of a two-out error on shortstop Jose Antequera to regain the lead in the next half inning. Mitchell Kranson shot a two-run homer out to right to make it 3-1 Miracle.
Garcia exited after five innings of work, allowing three runs (one earned) on just three hits. He walked two and recorded four strikeouts. Tyler Gilbert took over in the sixth, and tossed two scoreless innings of relief.
Clearwater battled back once again the seventh.
Facing Major League rehabber Glen Perkins, Duran crushed a two-strike pitch and senta no-doubter out to Frenchy's Tiki Hut, a two-run shot that tied the ballgame at three.
Bettencourt worked around an infield hit and a pair of errors to keep the game tied in the eighth. With men at the corners and one out, Bettencourt induced a double play off the bat of Rooker to end the inning.
The Threshers surged with two outs in the home half.
David Fischer (4-8) grabbed a pair of quick outs, and got ahead of Hernandez before hitting him with a pitch. Hernandez swiped second, and Jose Pujols came up clutch with a single through the left side to give the Threshers their first lead, 4-3.
Austin Bossart followed with an infield hit, and an error on the shortstop Jermaine Palacios allowed Pujols to take third. With men at the corners, Bossart broke for second, and Pujols raced to the plate on the throw from catcher Kranson, which caromed off the glove of second baseman Sean Miller . Pujols scored to make it 5-3.
Duran tacked on another with a double off the wall in left-center, putting Clearwater up 6-3 on his third RBI of the night.
The five-game series wraps up on Tuesday, as the Threshers host the Miracle at 7 p.m. Seranthony Dominguez (3-1) will take the hill opposed by Eduardo Del Rosario (1-0), and the game will be broadcast live on threshersbaseball.com starting at 6:45 p.m.
