(New Britain, Conn.) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the New Britain Bees 5-2 on Monday night in the first-ever meeting between the clubs and the opener of a three-game series at New Britain Stadium.

Neither side was able to push across a run until the Ducks scored four times off of Bees reliever Colin Moberly in the sixth. A run-scoring wild pitch, a two-run double by Dan Lyons and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Mike Blanke did the damage. Another run in the eighth on a two-out RBI single by Fehlandt Lentini extended the advantage to 5-0.

New Britain rallied for single runs in the eighth and ninth. A sac fly from Kevin Rivers and a RBI double by Jonathan Roof closed the gap to 5-2, but the Bees would get no closer.

Ducks starter Mark Blackmar (1-0) earned the win, pitching five scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and two walks while striking out three. Moberly (0-1) suffered the loss, yielding four runs on three hits and two walks with one strikeout in one inning. Bees starter Kyle Simon did not factor into the decision but threw five innings of scoreless baseball, giving up just one hit and one walk while striking out four.

Delta Cleary Jr. led the Flock with three hits offensively, while Lew Ford added two.

The Ducks and Bees continue their three-game set on Tuesday evening. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. from New Britain Stadium. Fans can follow all of the action live on the Ducks' official YouTube channel. Streaming audio will be available online.
