Ducks Cap Regular Season with Victory

(Camden, N.J., Sept. 23, 2012) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Camden Riversharks 4-2 on Sunday evening in the final game of the 2012 regular season at Campbell's Field.

Camden struck first in the bottom of the second on a RBI groundout to first by Juan Martinez off Ducks starter Bob Zimmermann. Long Island responded with two in the fourth off Riversharks reliever Josh Walter on a run-scoring groundout off the bat of Bryant Nelson and a RBI double to center by Lee Cruz.

The Ducks added two more in the seventh inning on a solo homer to right by Mitch Canham and a RBI double to left by Joash Brodin. A RBI triple by Chris Berroa in the bottom of the frame brought the "˜Sharks within two, but that was as close as they would come.

Neither starter factored into the decision. Zimmermann went three innings, allowing a run on three hits while striking out five, and Steve Fox lasted three innings, surrendering just two hits with three strikeouts. Bobby Blevins (1-0) earned the win, allowing just one hit in two innings with one strikeout, and Walter (0-4) took the loss, surrendering two runs (one earned) on two hits in two innings. Leo Rosales earned his sixth save with a scoreless ninth.

Cruz led the Ducks with three hits at the plate.

Following two days off, the Ducks will open the 2012 Atlantic League playoffs on Wednesday night with Game One of the Liberty Division Championship Series against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m. from Regency Furniture Stadium. Fans can follow all the action live online at LIDucks.com by clicking the Listen Live icon on the homepage. Long Island returns home for the playoffs on Friday, September 28 when they play Game Three of the Best-of-Five Liberty Division Championship Series. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 6:05. Following the game, all fans in attendance will be treated to a Grucci Fireworks Extravaganza.
