Dual Threat from Southern California

April 30, 2016 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Los Angeles KISS News Release

Through the first quarter of the AFL season, wide receiver DJ Stephens is becoming quarterback Nathan Stanley's favorite passing target and one of the most explosive kick returners in the league. Through the first four games, Stephens' 37 receptions lead the LA KISS and rank third in the league. He is also currently leading the LA KISS with 426 receiving yards and is the only LA KISS receiver this season to surpass 100 receiving yards in a game, a milestone that he has done in three out of the first four games. All of this coupled with his 632 kick return yards puts him second in the league with 495 all-purpose yards.

The first-year LA KISS player spent the 2015 season with the San Jose SaberCats, where he recorded 44 receptions for 681 yards and 11 touchdowns. Prior to San Jose, Stephens spent his first three seasons in the AFL with the San Antonio Talons. After appearing in just one game as a rookie, Stephens' career took off in his second year in the league. His quickness and agility allowed him to rack up 2,920 all-purpose yards and 35 touchdowns during his final two years in San Antonio.

A Southern California native, Stephens' was raised in Sylmar, California. He attended John F. Kennedy High School where in addition to being named to the All-City team in Los Angeles for football, he also played basketball and ran track. After playing two seasons at College of the Canyons, Stephens finished his collegiate football career at the University of Arkansas Monticello.

Whether Stephens is called upon to make a game changing catch or return a key kick-off, there is no doubt he will fit the bill.
