Charleston RiverDogs News Release

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Greenville Drive overcame a 3-1 deficit with a six-run seventh inning to defeat the Charleston RiverDogs, 9-3, in South Atlantic League action Tuesday night in front of a crowd of 2,674 fans at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

Greenville won its second straight to move over the .500 mark at 33-32, while Charleston dropped its second straight to fall to 25-40.

The late production made a winner of Scott Swinson (2-1), who penned 3.0 brilliant innings of relief, striking out four batters while yielding only one hit. Yobanny Reyes (0-1) was handed the loss, after giving up four runs on five hits and two walks in 1.0+ innings.

Charleston took a 2-0 lead off Greenville starter Brandon Workman in the second inning, courtesy of a pair of RBI doubles from Mike Ferraro and Garrison Lassiter.

Rob Segedin laced a one-out single to centerfield, and came around to score when Ferraro ripped a double to the right-center field alley. Lassiter tacked on with a clutch two-out base knock two batters later, drilling a RBI double to the same spot as Ferraro's.

Gary Sanchez generated momentum off a three-hit night on Monday, upping the RiverDogs to 3-0 in the bottom of the third. The 18-year old catcher snuck a single past the diving Xander Bogaerts at shortstop, scoring Ramon Flores from second base.

Workman was inefficient over his 4.0 innings of labor, yielding three runs on eight hits and a walk, while managing to strike out four.

RiverDogs starter Zach Nuding was extremely sharp in his fourth straight of the season against the Drive. Nuding struck out the side in the first inning, and no-hit Greenville over the opening three frames.

Reyes was pegged from the Charleston bullpen to replace Nuding in the last of the sixth. Nuding was dominant in his 5.0 flawless innings of work, allowing just two hits and a walk, while fanning seven.

Greenville registered a run on three hits versus Reyes to get on the scoreboard in the sixth inning, slicing the Charleston lead to 3-1.

Heiker Meneses started the rally with an infield single, and touched the plate on a Miles Head double which landed on the left-field line. The Drive had men at second and third with nobody out, but was unable to wreak any more havoc thanks to a great play by Ferraro. The left-fielder crossed into foul territory to catch a Brandon Jacobs fly ball, and then fired a one-hop strike to nail Christian Vazquez at the plate for a double play.

Eleven men came to the plate for Greenville in the top of the seventh, as the Drive erupted for six runs to forge a 7-3 advantage against Reyes and Tommy Kahnle. The first seven batters of the frame reached.

Bogaerts worked a leadoff walk to start the merry-go-round, and crossed the plate on a Lucas LeBlanc RBI single. Kahnle relieved Reyes to face Meneses, but could not stop the bleeding. Meneses was issued a free pass, and Vazquez inside-outed a two-run single to right field to give Greenville its first lead at 4-3.

Head extended the damage by rapping a single through the originator for his second RBI of the night. Henry Ramos grounded a single into right field to send Vazquez scurrying plateward to up the Drive cushion to 6-3, before Bogaerts capped the big inning with a RBI fielder's choice groundout.

Nathan Forer permitted two more runs in the top of the ninth, as the Drive got some insurance to move ahead, 9-3. Ramos scored Head with a sacrifice fly to center field, and Bogaerts showed off his speed by lacing a triple into the right field corner.

Head, a 2011 SAL All-Star, knocked four of Greenville's 13 hits, marking his second four-hit game of the season against the RiverDogs.
