Greenville Drive News Release
Salisbury, MD - The Greenville Drive offense got off to a flying start on Sunday afternoon and didn't let up, as they cruised to a 12-3 victory over the Delmarva Shorebirds.
Four runs in the top of the first was all the offense the Drive (23-12) would need. The first five batters in the inning reached against Travis Seabrooke (1-2), and RBI singles by Chris Madera and Tyler Hill made the score 2-0 in that stretch. A double play brought home another run, and Nick Sciortino's RBI single tacked on a fourth run.
A Delmarva (15-20) error in the third plated another Drive run, and a three-run fourth was highlighted by a two-run single from Hill to extend the lead to 8-0.
Drive starter Darwinzon Hernandez struck out eight Shorebirds hitters in his four innings of work, and Matthew Gorst (1-1) followed with four strikeouts over three innings of relief to earn the win.
The Drive plated four more runs in the top of the eighth, with Madera's two-run double headlining the frame. Jagger Rusconi and Mitchell Gunsolus added RBI singles in the inning.
The Shorebirds plated their first run of the game in the sixth when Collin Woody smacked a solo homer to left-center. They scored twice in the ninth on RBI hits from Alejandro Juvier and Ryan McKenna.
Hill posted a monster day at the plate, going 4-5 with three RBI. Madera, Rusconi and Scott added two hits apiece. Madera drove home three runs, while Rusconi and Scott each scored three times.
The series continues on Monday night at 7:05. The Drive will start left-hander Robby Sexton (0-3, 4.22), and the Shorebirds send left-hander Alex Wells (3-1, 1.19) to the mound.
