Dragons Win, Complete Series Sweep

Dayton, Ohio-Tanner Rahier had two hits and drove in three runs to lead the Dayton Dragons to an 8-3 victory over the Great Lakes Loons on Friday night at Fifth Third Field. The Dragons completed a three-game sweep of the Loons with the win and pulled the within one and one-half games of the wildcard spot. The Dragons improved their second half record to 30-24.

The Dragons scored two runs in the first inning to take an early lead. They took advantage of two Loons errors and got a two-out run-scoring single from Jeff Gelalich to make it 2-0.

In the third, Dayton added three more runs. Rahier delivered a two-run single and Zach Vincej added a sacrifice fly to make it 5-0.

Great Lakes picked up single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to make it 5-2, but the Dragons answered with three runs in the sixth on a two-run single by Daniel Pigott and a Rahier's RBI single to make it 8-2. Great Lakes pushed across one run in the eighth to close out the scoring.

Dragons starting pitcher Amir Garrett (1-2) earned the win. He worked five and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on five hits with one walk and no strikeouts. Jackson Stephens finished the game to earn his first save. He allowed one run on two hits over three and one-third innings, walking two and striking out three.

The Dragons finished with 10 hits. Gelalich, Rahier, Vincej, and Beau Amaral each had two.

The Dragons open a new four-game series with the West Michigan Whitecaps on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at Fifth Third Field. Drew Cisco (4-7, 3.93) will start for Dayton against West Michigan's Jordan John (7-4, 3.11). The game will be televised on WHIO Digital Channel 7.2 and Time Warner Cable channels 23 and 372.
