Dragons Top Chiefs 11-5 on Thursday

Dayton, Ohio-Beau Amaral collected three hits including a home run and the Dayton Dragons established season highs for runs and hits in a game as they defeated the Peoria Chiefs 11-5 on Thursday night at Fifth Third Field. The Dragons finished with 14 hits including 11 over the first four innings as they improved to 7-13 on the season. Peoria fell to 8-9.
The Dragons built a commanding lead early in the game. They scored in the first inning for the fifth straight night to lead 1-0, and then added five runs in the third and two more in the fourth to take an 8-0 lead. Peoria scored single runs in the fifth and seventh innings to make it 8-2, but the Dragons answered with three runs in the bottom of the seventh to build their lead to 11-2. Peoria scored three in the eighth to close out the scoring.
Amaral went 3 for 5 with three runs scored and two runs batted in to lead the Dragons. Junior Arias, Robert Ramirez, and Zach Vincej each added two hits. Arias and Jeff Gelalich both drove in two runs. All nine batters in the Dragons batting order had at least one hit.
Dragons starting pitcher Sal Romano (2-2) worked five innings and allowed one run to earn the win. He gave up six hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Romano was struck with a line drive near the right elbow in the fifth inning but remained in the game to finish the inning.
The Dragons host the Chiefs on Friday at 7:00 p.m. at Fifth Third Field. Robert Stephenson will start for the Dragons against Peoria's Hector Hernandez (0-1, 5.40). All Dragons games can be heard on WONE Radio (980 AM) and via the internet at daytondragons.com and wone.com.
Notes: The Dragons went 6 for 14 with men in scoring position...The Dragons had four doubles in the game to establish a season high, and their six hits in the third inning was also a 2013 high for most hits in one inning...The Dragons stole four bases including two by Arias, his eighth and ninth of the year. The Dragons have now stolen 31 bases in 20 games...The Dragons played errorless baseball for the seventh time this season.
