Dragons Get Wood Back On the Mound

August 7, 2006 - Midwest League (MWL1) - Dayton Dragons News Release

Dayton, OH - LHP Travis Wood, who was placed on the DL with a sprained left ankle following his start at Peoria on July 30th, has been activated and will get the start for the Dragons against the Burlington Bees at Fifth Third Field in game three of a four game series on Monday night. Wood's nine victories on the season ties him with Carlos Fisher for the team lead and is the most since Juan Frias won 10 games for the Dragons in 2003. The left hander from Alexander, Arkansas was the Reds second round selection in the 2005 First Year Player Draft and is 9-2 on the season with a 3.91 ERA. Wood leads all Dragons pitchers with 109 strikeouts and his 21 starts and 106.0 innings pitched are second on the club behind Fisher. He set a career high and a team high in 2006 with 11 strikeouts against Lansing on July 24th at Fifth Third Field.

To make room for Wood on the Dragons roster, RHP Robert Manuel who was acquired by the Cincinnati Reds from the New York Mets in exchange for LHP Dave Williams and cash considerations earlier in the season, has been promoted to the Sarasota Reds of the Florida State League. Manuel was signed by the Mets as a non-drafted free agent prior to the 2005 season out of Sam Houston State University and appeared in 13 games with the Dragons, seven as a starter. The right hander was 0-3 with one save and a 4.31 ERA in 48.0 innings. The Dragons active roster remains at 25.
