Today's Game: The Dragons (affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds) meet the Chiefs (affiliate of the Chicago Cubs) in the first game of a three-game set.

Season Series: This is the first meeting of the year between two clubs.

Streaks: Dayton: Lost 3 (Won 6 of last 9). Peoria: Lost 4 (1-8 over last 9 games).

Last Game: Great Lakes defeated Dayton 6-4 to complete a sweep of the three-game series. Gorman Erickson hit a two-run home run to break a 2-2 tie in the sixth inning. The Dragons finished with seven hits. Chris Richburg had two hits and two RBI. Didi Gregorius also had two hits. All three games in the series were decided by two-runs. The Dragons are 0-6 vs. the Loons in July, and 6-0 against other clubs.

Today's Starting Pitcher: Justin Walker makes his 14th start of the season tonight after beginning the year in the Dayton bullpen. In his last start on Thursday at Bowling Green, he earned the victory (6.0 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 SO). Walker has gone six innings in 11 of his 13 starts and leads the club in quality starts with six. Walker split 2009 season between Dayton and Billings, going a combined 1-5, 3.65. He worked 56.2 innings, allowing 59 hits with 10 walks and 54 strikeouts. He walked just seven batters in 65 innings of college baseball in 2008 with Lamar University, going 2-2, 4.85 in 19 games (seven starts). He posted a combined record of 18-1 over his junior and senior seasons at Nederland High School in Nederland, Texas.

Individual Notes

* Mark Fleury is batting .410 over his last 11 games (16 for 39). Fleury is second in the Midwest League in slugging percentage in the second half at .771. He leads the Dragons in second half batting at .354. Fleury has hit three home runs in his last five games and is batting .419 in July.

* Henry Rodriguez has hit safely in 23 of his last 25 games. He is tied for second in the Midwest League in RBI with 54. He is batting .331 over his last 36 games with 13 doubles and four home runs. He is hitting .329 in the second half.

* Alex Oliveras has hit home runs in two of the last three games he has played in (including a grand slam on Friday at Bowling Green). Oliveras is batting .316 over his last five games with eight RBI.

* Ryan LaMarre is 8 for 24, .333 over the last seven games with seven runs scored, three doubles, and four stolen bases.

* Didi Gregorius is batting .344 over his last eight games.

* For the period of June 1-July 12, the Dragons have four of the top 11 in the Midwest League in slugging percentage. Mark Fleury is third in the league, Cameron Satterwhite is fourth, Chris Richburg is 10th, and Henry Rodriguez is 11th.

* Blair Carson has thrown seven scoreless innings, allowing just three base runners (two singles and a walk) over his last two outings.

* The Dragons roster includes two players who are ranked among the Reds top 30 prospects by Baseball America. They are shortstop Didi Gregorius (#15) and pitcher J.C. Sulbaran (#25).

Team Notes

* The Dragons have won six of their last nine games. Ironically, they have won their last six road games and lost their last eight home games. They have won six straight road games for the first time since April 28-May 3, 2007 (club record for consecutive road wins is eight). The Dragons have swept the last two road three-game sets (at West Michigan; at Bowling Green).

* The Dragons have played six three-game sets in the second half and five have ended in sweeps (two series wins, three series losses). Fourteen of the 28 sets the Dragons have played this season have ended in sweeps (six series wins, eight series losses).

* Six of the 11 Dragons losses in the second half have come by one run and three have come by two runs. * The Dragons bullpen has notched 21 saves this season but suffered 20 blown saves. The 20 blown saves lead the league.
