Dayton Dragons News Release

Burlington, Iowa-Neftali Soto collected five hits to tie a club record and belted a three-run home run as the Dayton Dragons pounded the Burlington Bees 14-4 on Wednesday night for their fourth straight victory. The Dragons established season-highs with four home runs and 21 base hits in the game. The 21 hits were one short of the club record.

Soto went 5 for 6 to become the fifth player in Dragons history to collect five hits in a game. Brandon Waring contributed four hits including a home run for Dayton. Jason Bour had a home run and added three hits. Jake Kahaulelio also homered and scored four runs.

The Dragons got off to an early start when Waring launched a home run to left field after a single by Soto in the top of the first inning to give Dayton a 2-0 lead. It was Waring's 17th home run of the season.

In the second, the Dragons added four more runs. Michael McKennon was hit by a pitch to start the inning and with one out, Justin Reed single to right. Kahaulelio reached on an error to load the bases, and Zack Cozart delivered a sacrifice fly that brought in McKennon from third with a great slide around the tag of the catcher to make it 3-0. Soto followed with a home run to left, his third of the season, to make it 6-0.

Burlington scored one run in the third to make it 6-1, but Kahaulelio homered with one out in the top of the fourth to make it 7-1. Cozart followed with a double to left and scored on Waring's single to make it 8-1.

Burlington's Jason Taylor homered in the bottom of the fourth to make it 8-2, but Dayton's Jason Bour opened the fifth with a home run to left, his fourth of the season, to make it 9-2. The Dragons tacked on another run in the sixth to lead 10-2.

Jeremy Horst tossed the first five innings for the Dragons and earned the win to improve to 6-2. Horst allowed three hits and two runs with no walks and five strikeouts.

Jeff Jeffords replaced Horst in the bottom of the sixth and allowed one run in that inning before working a scoreless seventh. Henry Arias allowed the Bees a run in the eighth to make it 10-4 before the Dragons added four more runs in the top of the ninth to close out the scoring.

The Dragons improved to 24-15 in the second half with the win, going nine games over the .500 mark in a half for the first time this season. The Dragons are 17-4 over their last 21 games.

The Dragons meet the Bees at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday in the finale of the series. Josh Ravin (2-6, 6.35) will start for Dayton.
