Dayton Dragons News Release

DAYTON, OH- Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield will honor 20-year-old Justin Ferrence in a "Home Run for Life" during the Dayton Dragons/Peoria Chiefs game at Fifth Third Field on Tuesday, July 28 at 7 p.m.

The Dayton Dragons and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield have teamed up for their sixth year to showcase the "Home Run for Life" program. This program honors individuals who have shown tremendous strength and courage in fighting serious illnesses.

Justin has been living with Cerebral Palsy since he was 11 months old. The disorder affects his ability to move and to maintain his balance and posture. Although there is no cure for Cerebral Palsy, Justin regularly receives various treatments at Children's Medical Center. While there, doctors and nurses check his nutrition, and Justin works with physical occupational therapists. He takes medicine daily via a pump installed in his body that helps him loosen up his muscles. He also completes a stretching regiment to help keep his muscles and joints as flexible as possible.

Last year, Justin graduated from Xenia High School. He is currently taking classes at Clark State University, where he has earned a 4.0 grade point average despite it taking him twice as long to complete projects compared to other students. A sports enthusiast, Justin enjoys cheering on his favorite teams, the Cincinnati Reds and Cincinnati Bengals.

On Tuesday evening, Justin will be joined at Fifth Third Field by his mom and step-dad Pamela and Jason Duminske, his sister Haylie, and some of the doctors, nurses, and Anthem representatives who have played a major part in assisting him.

During an inning break, Justin will take a ceremonial lap around the bases signifying his "Home Run for Life." When he rounds third base, the Dayton Dragons players will be lined up to greet Justin as he makes his way toward home plate. Upon crossing the plate, Justin will be greeted by Dragons manager Todd Benzinger, who will present him with a certificate making him an honorary Dayton Dragon. Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Ohio President Erin Hoeflinger will present him with an engraved baseball bat.

Individuals and groups seeking information about Dayton Dragons lawn tickets, the season ticket wait list, sponsorship opportunities or booking a Dragons speaker are encouraged to contact the Dragons by calling at (937) 228-2287, or find the Dragons on the Web at daytondragons.com.
