Rockford IceHogs News Release

Peoria, Ill.- The Rockford IceHogs era in the American Hockey League began on Friday night, exhibition style. The IceHogs topped the Peoria Rivermen 4-2 at Carver Arena in Peoria, Ill. Rockford was led by forwards Jake Dowell and Evan Brophey who both scored a pair of goals for the IceHogs.

Rockford, however, got into early penalty trouble and Peoria capitalized. The Rivermen's Jarrod Skalde tipped a centering pass from Ryan Glenn past Hogs goalie Mike Brodeur at 6:31 for the early 1-0 lead. On another power play moments later, winger Jean-Guy Trudel redirected a point blast from Micki Dupont in at 8:44 for the 2-0 advantage.

The IceHogs tied the game back up with a pair of power-play tallies of their own in just 19 seconds. Dowell notched the Hogs first marker at 14:20 of the opening period, just six seconds into the Hogs first power-play attempt. Then at 14:39, nine seconds into Rockford's second power play, Brophey beat Juuso Riksman to tie the game at 2-2.

Brophey gave Rockford the 3-2 lead in the second period when he chipped his second goal of the night past Riksman at 8:24. Kris Versteeg and Bryan Bickell set up the marker.

Rockford's lead was extended in the third period to 4-2 when Dowell buried his second goal of the night off of a perfect centering feed from rookie winger Bryan McGregor at 7:43. Brodeur went the distance for Rockford turned away 29 Peoria shots including 25 overall in the first and second period.

The IceHogs and Rivermen will conclude their respective preseason schedules on Saturday at Carlson Arctic Ice Arena in Loves Park at 7:05 p.m.
