Doug Leaverton Named NTDP Asst. Director of Player Personnel

PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Doug Leaverton (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) has been named assistant director of player personnel for USA Hockey's National Team Development Program, it was announced today by USA Hockey.

Leaverton spent the past three seasons as head scout and assistant coach for the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders of the United States Hockey League. During his time with Cedar Rapids, Leaverton helped lead teams to the Anderson Cup Championship (2015-16), Eastern Division Championship (2015-16) and Clark Cup Playoffs (2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16). His main responsibilities included USHL Entry and Futures draft scouting, assisting with daily practice planning and preparation, pre-scouting of opponents and other various coaching duties.

"Doug has proven himself as an effective talent evaluator during his time with the RoughRiders," said Scott Monaghan, senior director of operations at the NTDP. "We are excited for Doug to join the hockey operations staff and assist in the development of U.S. hockey talent."

His main responsibilities with the NTDP will include identification, evaluation and recruitment of potential players.

Prior to his time with the RoughRiders, Leaverton was a coach at the Ohio Hockey Academy in Cleveland. There, he worked in individual and small group training and development.

Leaverton played college hockey at Colorado College (2009-11) and was a member of the 2010-11 team that particpated in the 2011 NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Tournament. His junior hockey career included time in the USHL with the Mahoning Valley Phantoms (2005-07) and RoughRiders (2007-09). He also skated for the U.S. at the 2005 U17 Four Nations Tournament in Piestany, Slovakia, and 2006 Vlad Dzurilla Tournament in Piestany, Slovakia.
