Doug Janik Clears Waivers; Assigned To Hamilton

MONTREAL, QC - Montreal Canadiens General Manager Bob Gainey announced today that the defenceman Doug Janik has cleared waivers and has been assigned to the Hamilton Bulldogs. Janik was acquired by Montreal from the Dallas Stars in exchange for forward Steve Begin on Thursday, February 26th. The blueliner will join the Bulldogs in Cleveland tomorrow and is scheduled to be available for their game against the Lake Erie Monsters tomorrow night.
Janik, 28, has played in 13 games with the Stars this season accumulating one assist and two penalty minutes. The 6-foot-2, 211-pound defenceman also competed in four games with the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL posting two assists and four penalty minutes. The native of Agawam, Massachusetts has played in six NHL seasons, with Buffalo, Tampa Bay and Dallas amassing 16 points (three goals, 13 assists) along with 121 penalty minutes. Janik was originally drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the 2nd round, 55th overall in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.
The Bulldogs host the Toronto Marlies tonight for a 7:00 p.m. game at Copps Coliseum before travelling to Cleveland for a 5:00 p.m. match-up with the Lake Erie Monsters tomorrow night.
