Doubledays Fall in Series Opener to Muckdogs

The Auburn Doubledays, Single-A Short Season affiliate of the Washington Nationals, lost the first game of a three-game series to the Batavia Muckdogs, 4-2, on Friday evening at Falcon Park. Outfielder Nick Banks reached base three times and knocked in a run for the Doubledays in the loss.
The Muckdogs (13-40) jumped on the board in the top of the second inning. With one out, Alex Jones singled. After an Isaiah White fly out to center field, Michael Garzillo doubled to left-center field to score Jones from first base and give the Muckdogs a 1-0 lead.
Batavia added to its lead in the third inning. With one out, Walker Olis tripled. Eric Gutierrez then grounded out, but Olis scored from third base on the play to put the Muckdogs up 2-0.
The Doubledays (22-32) cut the Muckdogs' lead in half in the bottom of the fourth inning. With one out, Paul Panaccione singled. Ryan Ripken then popped out for the second out of the inning. With Clayton Brandt batting, Panaccione stole second base. Brandt followed with a single to right field that scored Panaccione to trim the Batavia lead to one, 2-1.
The Muckdogs doubled their score in the top of the fifth inning. With two outs, Gutierrez singled. Branden Berry followed with a two-run home run to left field that gave Batavia a 4-1 advantage.
Auburn scored again in the eighth inning. Blake Perkins led off the inning with a single. Daniel Johnson then singled to put runners on the corners with no outs. Nick Banks followed with a base hit to left field that scored Perkins to cut Batavia's lead to two, 4-2.
The Doubledays and the Muckdogs meet on Saturday night for the second game of a three-game series at Falcon Park. Right-hander Dane Dunning will pitch for Auburn, while left-hander Dylan Lee will be on the mound for Batavia. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. Enjoy a spectacular post-game fireworks show on Saturday presented by Generations Bank and Finger Lakes News Radio WAUB. Saturday is also "Lakeshore Little League Night" at Falcon Park. Lakeshore Little League players in uniform will be recognized on the field before the game. Special ticket packages are available to players, families, and friends through an order form provided by Lakeshore Little League.
