Double Header Sweep Puts Tourists Back over .500

ASHEVILLE-- The Asheville Tourists swept a double-header from the Augusta GreenJackets on Wednesday night. Asheville pulled out game one by a score of 5-4 and built a big lead in game two before winning 8-5. The two wins brought the Tourists second half record to 30-29.

Asheville won a total of 29 games in the first half therefore the 30 second half victories is already an improvement. Asheville still has 11 games left on the schedule.

In game one, the Tourists scored all five of their runs over the first two innings. Augusta plated one in the first and one in the second. The score remained 5-2 until Skyler Ewing hit a solo Home Run in the fifth. Heath Holder helped pitch out of a sixth inning jam and the Tourists took a 5-4 lead into the seventh. That is where Reid Humphreys nailed down his ninth save of the season.

The second game saw Asheville build a 7-0 lead thanks to a run in the first and second inning, followed by a five-run third. Jacob Bosiokovic launched his 15th Home Run of the season in the third inning offensive attack. Augusta rallied back but never came within three runs. Julian Fernandez pitched the seventh inning to earn his second save of the season. Fernandez has not allowed a run over his last 20.1 innings pitched.

Offensively the Tourists were led by Willie Abreu and Tyler Nevin. Both players reached base multiple times in each game. Bobby Wernes delivered four RBI over the two games and extended his reached base streak to 22 straight. Jose Rodriguez, making his McCormick Field debut, went 3-for-3 in game one and even made the defensive play for the game's final out.

Asheville will attempt to win the series against Augusta with a victory on Thursday. It is the final time these two teams will play in 2017.
