Rio Grande Valley Dorados News Release
DORADOS ROSTER MOVES CONTINUE
The Rio Grande Valley Dorados are closer and closer to trimming their roster down to 21 active members (international players do not count). After placing Joseph Lemberg on re-assignment Saturday, the club re-assigned six more players Monday morning. Released from the squad was quarterback Brian Baker (Loganville, GA Austin Peay St.), defensive specialist Zeb Ellison (Shelby, AL West Alabama), wide receiver/defensive back Sterling Finney (St. Louis, MO Culver-Stockton), Will Goodloe (Spring Valley, CA Texas), fullback/linebacker Jason Morris (Walkersville, MD Shepherd College) and lineman Josh Tubbs (Belton, TX Texas St.). The roster deletions places the Dorados roster with 24 active members and it must be cut down to 21 active members on April 3rd.
THE E-WATCH
Former Dorados defensive specialist Eddie Moten is the first and only player to advance his playing career from the Dorados to the higher level and is currently the youngest member of the Arena Football League s (AFL) Philadelphia Soul. Moten, who was a rookie last season for the Dorados out of Texas A&M-Kingsville, co-led the af2 last season in interceptions with 10 and led the af2 in interception return yards with 124 yards. Each week we will keep tabs on his progress in AFL action:
Sun. March 27th vs. Grand Rapids Rampage
The Philadelphia Soul collected their second consecutive win and improved their record to 4-5 Sunday with a 64-41 win at home over the Grand Rapids Rampage. Moten had a second consecutive solid outing, as he collected his second interception of the season to co-lead the team and ranked second on the club in tackles in the game with 4.5 (4 solo). His game totals place him with 27.5 tackles (27-solo, 10-assisted) on the year (ranks 29th in the league) and his team leading 13 passes defended (break-ups and interceptions) ranks fifth in the AFL, leaving him three back from leader Jonathan Ordway of Tampa Bay. His 11 pass break-ups ranks fourth in the AFL, two back from Ordway and Rashad Floyd of Colorado.
Next for Moten: The Soul (4-5) will hit the road Sunday, as they head to Ohio to face the Columbus Destroyers (1-7) at 11-AM, in a contest to be carried on NBC. (NBC determines which games are televised in each of their markets and KVEO Channel 23 could air the Soul contest or the Los Angeles at Orlando contest).
