Rio Grande Valley Dorados News Release

Hidalgo, Texas --- The Rio Grande Valley Dorados, who begin their fifth season of arenafootball2 action in April, will hold a local tryout camp on Saturday, March 1, 2008, from 1-4 p.m. at Cats Stadium in Edinburg.

Players will participate in various position specific drills in addition to being timed in the 40-yard dash, broad jump and short shuttle. Players should dress appropriately for the tryout, including proper footwear for Cats Stadium's field turf. The $30 pre-registration fee ($50 day-of, cash only day-of) will cover the facility fee.

For more information or to pre-register contact the Dorados office at 956-843-5658.

One local product already assigned to the team is OL Garrett Mason, a McAllen High School graduate and the first RGV-bred player in four years for the Dorados. A recent graduate of Duke University, Mason was a two-year starter at McAllen and was named First Team All-District as a senior as well as First Team All-Area, First Team All-Valley and Honorable Mention All-State. He also served as team captain and was elected to play in the Texas All-Star Game.

"Garrett is an example of the football talent the Valley has to offer," said Dorados Head Coach Marty Hammond. "We know there are local players capable of competing in arenafootball2 and we want to give them the opportunity to do so in their own backyard."

The Dorados went 15-1 last season and won the Southwest Division Championship. Several of last year's players have signed on to play with Arena Football League (AFL) teams, the top level of the indoor game.

Earlier this off season, DL's Quinton Staton (Orlando), Tony McClain (Kansas City) and Toli Liufau (Arizona) all signed with AFL teams. More recently, WR George Williams was signed by the Dallas Desperados while DB Andre Burns was signed by the New York Dragons.

Dorados single game tickets will go on sale at all TicketMaster outlets, including online and at the Dodge Arena Box Office, on Monday, March 31 at 10 a.m. Season and group tickets are already available by calling 956-843-7825. Tickets start as low as $112 for the full season and $14 for single games. Group tickets remain as low as $12 per game. The home half of the 2008 season kicks off on Saturday, April 26, vs. Bossier-Shreveport.
